The apartment complex, just a stone’s throw from Siesta Key, only had about a dozen units, and didn’t have the size or scale to afford a big, e-commerce site.

The solution? A five-page guide to the apartments using the open source WordPress and free templates. It’s easy to update; they can do it themselves. Three days of Google Adwords gave the new site massive exposure, at minimal cost.

On the site, we included a promo of the Darlings’ on-site Pottery studio, and talked about the natural setting of the units. The site serves as a companion landing page to their regular (and free) ads on craigslist.com.

Many websites fall on tricks like Flash graphics to grab users, but keyword-dependent businesses need a different approach. Strong images and descriptive copy helped get the word out about the apartments.

SARASOTA – When Black Cow Press editor Garland Pollard left his position editing Florida tourism publications, he kept getting bombarded with Florida press releases and story ideas.

While he turned some of them into stories for his freelance writing, he realized that there were hundreds more story ideas that ought to be posted.

He wondered if there wasn’t an easy way to put it all together, aggregating content from press releases and other travel sites with his own stories, ideas and blogposts.

The result? FloridaSnapshot.com, a compendium of funky stuff about Florida. Built on a simple WordPress platform (shhh….that means it’s really a blog), it’s as easy to update as a blog, but it performs the function of a state travel magazine, and looks like something far larger. It’s built on the stupendous Brian Gardner’s Revolution WordPress theme, but customized with some individual elements.

We would advise any travel writer, restaurant or hotel to have their own, if only to put their own spin on the way they see the world. The themes can also be used for retail shops, apartment complexes and non-profits.

It’s the future of the web, where everyone, and every organization, has their own personal magazine. Talk to us at (703) 745-8602 and we talk about how we can build one for your company, city or non-profit, lick-ety split.
